The Undead are the reanimated remains of the former living. Most are malevolent, fiendish creatures unable to awake from their nightmarish torment. While the majority of undead encountered in Myrium are mindless, drooling, flesh-eating monsters, a few have retained enough of their mental faculties to continue. Some of the more powerful Undead in the realms can stave off death again and again. Though Undead are brought back into this world using dark magic. Their energy comes from the underverse; this is the dark matter that reanimates them. Little is known about the underverse, but it is deeper and darker than any kind of shadow magic.
Undead may be walking corpses, but never underestimate their strength or cunning. Undead do not suffer the living. They may kill anyone, anywhere, at any time for any or no reason, especially if "the hunger" overwhelms them. Undead can be "dead" versions of any race but cannot be living.
If you are playing an undead elf, for example, you would still need elf ears as part of your rotting type costume. Living characters who become Undead in the course of the game lose many racial abilities they previously had when they were alive and from that point on learn Undead abilities instead.
* As undead do not have a beating heart, therefore, no blood circulation in their bodies, they are immune to all Poisons.
Mandatory Undead Costume Requirements (any combo of these as bare minimums): Pale or rotting flesh/zombie makeup. The costume that is typically tattered, torn, and maybe even stained. Missing body parts to full skeleton costume can be used.
You must portray yourself as Undead with simple stagger walking techniques (move like a zombie). Undead do not move quickly and will appear to be uncomfortable or in pain if in direct sunlight. Undead are faster at night or in shadow, but they still do not run at night. Running, even at night, will result in corrective action.
Some things to keep in mind about playing this race: It is likely that without other Undead in the realm, a single Undead character may very well be targeted by many living characters regardless of their alignment. There are lots of Paladins and Clerics around who suffer not the Undead to exist! Due to this fact, you may want to consult your local Elders if you wish to play your Undead character at an event. They will try to fit it into the game story if they can, or may advise you not to play this type of character if you are afraid of feeling persecuted by the other characters. We want all players to have fun, and playing the Undead race could lead to player-versus-player gameplay that feels targeted. Undead may be powerful, but a single Undead character just starting out won't stand much of a chance against a party of Paladins and Clerics.
Underverse powers of animation can't be removed via magic removal abilities.
Undead Abilities
Undead Cannibalism – 3,500XP
What it does: This act will heal one limb per target eaten but cannot be used to heal mortal wounds/bleed out. To act this out, the prey must be on the ground. The Undead character must say, "Cannibalize!" before making an eating motion while hovering over the victim for at least 30 seconds. Prey must be dead or otherwise incapacitated.
Undead Diseased Bite – 6,000XP. Uses 2 mana bands.
What it does: Allows the Undead to “bite” a living target character to "infect" them with a debilitating disease. The character must say, "Infected Wound" to target. The victim must roleplay being affected by horrible, festering, infected wounds until healed by a surgeon or killed. Infectious Disease is different from Vampiric infection. It DOES NOT cause the victim to become an Undead.
Unholy Armor – 8,000XP. Uses 2 mana bands +20 Second Incantation
What it does: Increases toughness of an undead target by +1 Magic Armor. The caster must perform incantation and then touch the Undead target.
Undead Reanimation – 10,500XP. Uses 1 mana band.
What it does: Allows an undead character to "Reanimate" after being killed (If looted, they still give loot to their opponent). They must wait at least 10 seconds before they can get back up. This is useable once per battle.
Raise One Dead Body – 15,000XP. Uses 3 mana bands. + 30 second Incantation
What it does: Takes dead character on the ground and raises them as an temporary servant. Controlled being keeps their current skills and abilities. Caster cannot control more than one risen being at a time.
Army of Darkness – 25,000XP. Uses 1 mana band per character raised (max of 10 at a time). + 30 second incantation each
What it does: Raise up to 10 undead or resurrected players/NPC's at a time and then control them. Controlled beings keep their current skills and abilities. Must touch each character while rising them.
